"That's right, Ice...man. You do need to appear in a Top Gun sequel!"

In 1986 Jerry Bruckheimer launched a movie phenomenon, one so iconic that it would endure in the decades of pop culture to follow. Somehow, one of the gayest films ever to come out of Hollywood has become my favourite. Hopefully this is not a reflection of some deep rooted sexual confusion on my part. Regardless, I can probably quote you the script, am fluent in the meme, and am just dying to attempt singing 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' to some poor, unsuspecting girl in a bar one day.

So when I heard that a possible sequel to Top Gun might be in the pipeline, you can imagine I came a little. Apparently, due to the slating of the Cruise-meister's latest project, 'Knight and Day', Maverick will be 'switching to guns' to remind us all how he flew to the top in the first place.

Rumours of a sequel have existed for years, and Bruckheimer confirmed in a recent interview with MTV that several attempts had been made before but never really came to fruition. "We kicked around some ideas because the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago. So we have to find a way in and how to incorporate the Maverick character into it". Not that the first film was an ultra realistic insight into the aviation community in the first place, eh Jerry?

Great balls of fire!
