The World's Woes

Not necessarily novel if you're interested in how the world works, but nonetheless a fantastic documentary explaining how the biggest problems facing the planet are all inextricably interlinked. Although a couple of things did strike me as a tad odd. While this does a great job at highlighting what the problems are and their relation to one another, I was a little surprised at the near total omission of potential technological innovations that would go quite a way to solving some of the issues brought up. For example, with regards to energy security Dr. Ahmed forwards that in the future we will have to adjust our practices in line with current available technology such as wind and solar power. What he fails to mention however is that we are also currently on the cusp of some major breakthroughs in renewable clean energies. The ITER project for example holds great hope for commercial fusion energy while geothermal energy, although briefly mentioned, is vastly understated. Likewise the problem of diminishing agricultural yields may also be averted through hydroponics, a method which could vastly increase food production. Still, despite some Malthusian errors this is nonetheless a fascinating holistic look at our world.

"Green" aliens might object to the environmental damage humans have caused on Earth and wipe us out to save the planet. "These scenarios give us reason to limit our growth and reduce our impact on global ecosystems. It would be particularly important for us to limit our emissions of greenhouse gases, since atmospheric composition can be observed from other planets," the authors write.

Even if we never make contact with extraterrestrials, the report argues that considering the potential scenarios may help to plot the future path of human civilisation, avoid collapse and achieve long-term survival."

I've highlighted the most incredulous part of the article above. I absolutely pissed myself laughing at this one. Is there no end to the ridiculous scare tactics these crooks will use to promote their agenda? Pay your carbon tax or aliens will get you? Puh-lease!

The World In 2010

Pretty interesting, especially the growth in technology since 2000. Further interesting, it seems that the film industry hasn't been as hard hit by piracy as it claims. However, how they skewed the temperature data is beyond me. Global temperatures in fact have not risen since 1998, so I can only assume they used long-term trends, such as over a period of thirty-years. Cunts.

Anthropogenic Climate Change?

So you'll have watched news reports about how this planet is fucked, taken Al Gore's hockey stick as absolute fact and agree that we should be taxed to high heaven as a means to correct man's negligence. Apparently this is indisputable. Well, below are some articles which may cause you to question some of those preconceived notions. This isn't to say whether climate change is real or not; of course it is. The question is whether it comes through natural planetary cycles or 'us' pumping a minuscule amount of that life-enabling 'toxin' known as C02 into the air.

Might be time to think twice rather than follow this modern-day global religion.

Lord Monckton wins climate change debate

If you were to believe everything mainstream media is telling you, the Earth is heading for a catastrophe of biblical proportions. And it is you, yes you who is responsible for it. Al Gore presents us with 'irrefutable facts' of Man-Bear-Pig and how the human race is responsible for the destruction of the Earth via pumping C02 into the atmosphere. We are told that this is now 'scientific fact' and that, words I'm sure you're all too familiar with, "The time for debate is over. The science is settled".

Well, I'm sorry to say Mr Gore, Mr Miliband and Mr Pachauri, but that is not how science works. Science progresses from the extensive testing of theories, and that is all man-made global warming and climate change is; a 'theory'. Science defined is fact, truth, knowledge. How a 'theory' can be defined as such is absurd, requiring blind faith in something which is not even 100% verifiable. Contrary to 'popular' belief, there is no consensus among scientists as to the causes of climate change. And don't get me wrong, there is most certainly climate change. Whether humans are responsible for it or not however is an entirely separate matter. Recently over 30,000 scientists signed a petition against anthropogenic global warming, showing that not everyone in the scientific community is convinced. Whilst most climate change zealots will say 30,000 is small fish compared to the thousands of 'peer reviewed' papers 'proving' it's all our fault, I would endeavour to launch into a scathing attack on the peer-review process, but I will save that for another blog.

I will, at some point, compile my own views on climate change, backed up with sources. But for now I would like to dedicate this blog to Lord Monckton, a dirty climate change 'denier' (almost makes you sound like a holocaust denier, doesn't it?), who has been at the forefront of disproving man-made climate change. For what is believed to be the first time ever in England, an audience of university undergrads in Oxford decisively (135 to 110) rejected the notion that 'global warming' is a serious planetary threat. The only previous defeat for such climate extremists occurred at St. Andrew's university last year. This shock result could be the first signs of a concerted rejection by the British public of the relentless propaganda we are subjected to on our television screens. No longer are people moved by scaremongering apocalyptic visions set to come to fruition in only five years if we don't, right now, shut down all industry and pay carbon tax to a global central bank.
