The first gameplay videos of Rockstar's latest mega project, LA Noire, have just hit teh interwebs and it has only done more to heighten my anticipation. Seeing the MotionScan technology integrated into the gameplay makes for quite an incredible spectacle and shows another leap forward in the blending between movies and video games, creating an entirely new epic experience.

LA Noire's MotionScan Technology
In the world of video games the art of making inanimate objects look 'real' has pretty much been perfected. Indeed, it's always been the people, particularly the facial animations, which never really seemed 'all there'. This year's Heavy Rain went one step closer toward more realistic animations of people, yet at the end of the day, you still knew you were playing a game.
However, this is all about to change with Australian outfit Team Bondi's new MotionScan technology. To be used in the upcoming videogame, LA Noire, the technology accurately recreates facial movements on a computer screen with unerring realism unlike anything you've seen before. The technology essentially works by using a wide array of cameras which surround the actor from every conceivable angle, creating a 3D composite that can be used in-game.
It is a seriously amazing piece of kit and will no doubt aid in videogames merging with other entertainment mediums.
