Tonight's the night...

Yet another show I feel I must share with y'all, Dexter! Again, I'm latecomer to this series but it is definitely one of the most enjoyable ones I've had the pleasure of viewing. It's taken me a few weeks to make my way through the 48 episodes spread across four series, but it makes for compelling viewing.

Dexter Morgan is a forensics specialist working in the homicide department for Miami Metro Police. The catch? He leads a double life as a serial killer. You want more catch? Here's catch. He operates via 'The Code', rules instilled in him by his late foster father. That is, he only kills bad people. Dexter is not like others, a psychopath who barely considers himself human. Only through his father has he been taught to interact and blend in convincingly with those around him when in reality he harbours very little in the way of emotion. He is indifferent to most things around him, but interestingly as much as Dexter refuses to admit he is human, there are certain things which elicit an emotional response. Where he enters superficial relationships with those around him, he can't help but become attached in some instances, especially to his sister Deb, girlfriend Rita and her two children, which complicates his double life and raises questions over his perceived urge to kill. Over the four seasons we see Dexter slowly become more 'human', battling with his inane will to remain a psychopath whilst yearning to become a normal person with wife and kids.

Dexter is an absolute blast. Perhaps the next season will be its last, but after the shocking and deep finale of season 4 I cannot wait to see how they wrap the show up. Amazing.

Update: Trailer for Season 5.

OMFG!&^*(^$*&£
